Firm Profile

You should entertain retaining Ms. Bonner if:

  • No one has really explored your case with you; given you a fair read on the case and quoted a fee which is reasonable.  It is the difference between the credentialed surgeon and a family doctor.
  • No one has assessed the potential danger that you are in of long prison sentences
  • You know that an FBI, IRS, DEA or other investigation, has begun and your records have been sought.  This is a very delicate matter and must be held professionally–review and copy each document produced; examine for privileged material or even trade secrets’ material so that they can be individually considered.
  • You are awaiting trial which can and will impact your life and the lives of your family
  • You were represented by counsel with whom you were not pleased at trial and wish to bring in new counsel for sentencing, motions for new trial, etc.You need appellate counsel
  • You have lost your appeal and you wish to file a post-conviction attack, usually centering around ineffective assistance of counsel or prosecutorial misconduct

More About the Firm

Mary Catherine Bonner, P.A., (Kate) runs a sophisticated, boutique law firm with one to one relationships–which usually turn into life-long friendships–with her clients.  Ms. Bonner has but a few clients at a time and you can easily reach her with your concerns.  You will not be dealt with by a secretary or paralegal unless it is for a scheduling or routine matter.

The firm specializes in taking complex cases which require a fresh approach and then employs those approaches to defend our clients.  Many of our clients have been through several lawyers, are disheartened ,and are happy to finally have someone give them a fresh approach, personal attention, and, perhaps even hope.

The firm will investigate, file all appropriate motions (not one-size fits all forms); will attempt to get the matter resolved pre-trial if possible. The only way to successfully attempt that is to aggressively challenge each point of fact and law investigation and creative legal research.

The firm is prepared to deal with the most complex criminal or civil trial or appellate cases and routinely handles cases with massive numbers of documents.  Your documents will be scanned and you will be able to access them at any time via cloud technology at no cost to you.

We can and have practiced in virtually all federal circuit courts of appeal; courts in Liechtenstein and Anguilla; and Ms. Bonner has argued before the United States Supreme Court.

Samplings of matters handled by the firm

  • Drugs or drug trafficking/Ms. Bonner speaks Spanish–trials and appeals as well as post conviction matters
  • Through understanding their language and customs, Ms. Bonner can successfully interact with foreign language speakers
  • White collar cases such as fraud
  • Crimes where violence has been alleged up to and including murder
  • Even though seemingly more simple, probation and supervised release hearings and appeals–the original probation or short sentence followed by an accusation of breach can bring stunningly bad consequences.
  • If only bad things have happened in the lower courts, you may wish to ask the Supreme Court of the United States to review the matter.  Since there are both initial petitions which are not as extensive as merits’ briefs, Ms. Bonner will structure her compensation so that the petition carries one price and, if certiorari is granted, the merits briefings another.  You want someone who has gone through that process many times–both petition and oral argument as the lead counsel.

It is little known, but attorneys can try or take on state cases in other states with the approval of that state’s bar and sometimes with a local counsel as second chair.

Ms. Bonner recently, successfully tried a felony case in a small town in Montana. Of course, she can  try federal cases in all federal courts–in foreign courts with the assent of the court–and can brief and argue appeals in federal courts of appeal or the United States Supreme Court.
